Shadowing Chelsea:
We started our day taking photos of the bride and brides maids getting ready. also during that time we took photos of the wedding dress on the hanger. Once everyone had their hair and makeup done we took them outside to get the group photos of all of them. We then got the group photos of the groom and the groomsmen. By then it was almost time for the ceremony to start. Chelsea and I got into our positions while the wedding party got ready to walk across the bridge and down the aisle.
When the ceremony was over it was then time for the family and full wedding party group photos while cocktail hour starts. when the family photos were done we took just the bride and groom to take individual photos. Chelsea and I then set up the photo booth that I would be taking photos for during the reception. For the photo booth we had tons of funny props and accessories with a sparkly backdrop. Our next step was to take the photos of the announcing of the wedding party and first dance and father and mother dances. In the middle of the rehearsal I took photos of the throwing of the bouquet and garter. The photo booth business got dead after a while so I went and took photos of the dance floor as well. Then our last event to shoot was cutting the cake. Once it was around 9 pm we packed up everything and headed home.
A couple days after the wedding I went over to Chelsea's to talk about her editing process and to interview her. Chelsea shared with me that she use Photo Mechanic 5 to look at all the photos she took that are on her SD card without having to download all of them on to her computer first. She can then just select the photos she wants to download with out taking up as much room on her computer hard drive. She then opens the photos into Adobe Bridge and does basic lighting editing and then opens them into Adobe Photoshop and uses at preset that just makes the colors pop and then sharpens the persons eyes.
From this experience I learned lots of things. Experiencing and learning to use the Canon 6D and an external flash was one of my favorites. I learned that with the external flash the shutter speed can't be too fast or the light won't expose the whole image and it will leave a dark bar on the bottom. I also learned that getting a lot of the group photos done during the cocktail hour makes sure the guests don't feel like they are waiting around forever to see the bride and groom.
